I owe apologies.
I've given folks a little crap for whining (er... complaining) about PvP issues, being mainly a PvE guy.
Then ANet did this Xtreme thing.
I shouldn't have, and apologize to all.
PvP is fun. Very fun.
I can easily see a few things that would be considered issues though, for example faction... at the rates over the weekend, I probably managed to get 10K or so faction with sporadic play. If these rates are reset... it's gonna take a while for the casual PvP player to unlock things. This is simply a fact. Also... what's the deal with PvP chars not being able to get to a priest or anything other than a rune trader? There should be a Priest of Balthazar in the arenas. To me, this would be common sense.
Other things I learned...
A R/N can take out a W/Mo solo, and debilitating shot is your friend for those red engines that like the Bathalzar's Aura thing. I learned to hate that skill.
A Random team of 1 ranger and 3 warriors... if you're the ranger, you have a big arsed bullseye on your forehead. Otherwise, far too many groups ignore the enemy ranger.
The random arenas are still a good place for fragility builds, but that's probably it.
Getting picked up for a PuG 8v8 team is hit and miss... sometimes you'll get the immediate random invite, sometimes you can search for ages.
A good PuG can last three or four battles, but not often... sigh...
People that don't like how things are going so they drop are idiots. Especially when you go on an win anyhow.
GvG is fun.
Ah well... now I don't know what to do anymore. I still enjoy the hell out of PvE, but PvP is like a new game all over again. But, if you're in the arenas and see Dynas the Uncaring, feel free to say Hi, but keep the flames to the whisper channels.

I agree. The faction rate is was normal/slow during the PvPX weekend, and is completely impossible right now in its original state.
I've posted some calculations by other people, and my own, on how much time does it really take to unlock half of everything for someone playing casual.
The original number is 2.7 years of playing 2 hours a day to unlock half the faction. At the PvPX rate it drops to 6.6 months, at the same 2 hours a day, which is about equal to unlocking through PvE without heavy farming.
Half a year is definitely better then almost three years... but still nothing to be content about.
Calculations and answers to replies:

Great to see a convert The PvE in guild wars is not bad at all, but by heck the PvP is fun.
I would be interested to hear how you progress in the game because right now with your comment about how slow the faction will be for you once the increase is removed puts you right at where the regular pvpers were about a month ago - everyone was complaining that the faction was still way to much of a grind. Fortunately this weekend was close to a UAS for most regular PvPers that didn't have to work or stuff over the weekend.
PvP gives you a new reason to PvE as you will start using it to go cap elites and farm skill points.
Welcome to the fold

Funny you mention that... my PvE hydromancer just capped Water Trident for me last night, and one big reason was to save the 3K faction so I can try out a hydro build for PvP. I'm starting to catch myself wanting a skill, looking up where it is and seeing which PvE character can get it for me...

The game changes alot when you want to try out build ideas instead of being content with your pve character exploring the game.

Faction is for weapon upgrades and runes. SoC is for skills . Run out of skill points? Just make a new character and go get it. With friends you can be capping that skill within about a day if not sooner

I would say that it takes a long time for even extreme grinders of faction points to even unlock a minor run.. Seriously, 10 faction per win >.>
Woot! I won 12 GvG games! Now I can unlock Ether Renewal! And it only took 8 hours and 10 losses!

GvG is much faster than that. Before the weekend I was getting 500faction for the win plus all the kill faction as well.

It depends on your guild rank, really. My current guild is rank 1.6k. I doubt with the current system I'll be getting that much for awhile.

even there you are getting a lot more faction than 10 per kill - unless of course you are never winning any GvG.
That said, faction without the boost we had over the weekend is still very slow if you want to try and unlock significant amounts of skills using just faction.

Which is definatly why I use faction to unlock skills. I REALLY don't want to have to go through the game two more times and unlock skills with a Necromancer and Mesmer. I've gone through the game three times already. Nor do I feel like grinding out skills points on my level 20 character.
PvP is fantastic imo and spoiled me! Money and farming is not needed for anything, just some good player skills

I agree with everything you posted, but didn't quote all of it. I, too, have played mostly PvE, with only a few hours spent cavorting in the random 4v4 arena up until the PvPx weekend. A penny for my thoughts?:
~ Random 4x4: if you're the only spellcaster in the group (i.e. non ranger or warrior), you're going to get targetted first. Nothing new there. And yes, I'm guilty of ignoring rangers also. They just don't scare me that much. Interrupters are about the only rangers that I truly detest.
~ Random 4v4: Talking about ignoring rangers: I'm a necro. My teammates are any mix of spellcasters and fighters. Everyone ignores me until the other spellcasters go down. That lets me do all kinds of crazy damage with my all-blood skillbar with no worries.
~ Random 4v4: The PvPx event brought out MANY more people who join + drop immediately, or drop immediately after they die. They should disable the map function when you're in a PvP game. If they want to leave a PvP game early, they should have to log out first.
~ Other idiots include last-man-standing runners. Funny, yes, for the first minute, but just plain stupid after that. Which is one of the reasons why I equip Gale.
~ There really is no excuse for not bringing res signets into PvP.
~ Random 4v4: Fragility builds are useless against my necro. My Soul Leech kills them and heals me at the same time, the faster they cast the better, haha. I'm really surprised that there aren't more necros out there using that skill; it is incredibly powerful against all spellcasters, monks included. Of course, I'm hoping that people won't read this post and go and make a Soul Leech build to use against me....
~ As a PvE player, I really have no use at all for faction since my PvP necro is actually a PvE character. I wish they would allow for some kind of tangible reward for faction other than unlocking stuff for PvP... letting a PvE character use faction to purchase exclusive armor would be fun!
~ Related to the immediately above: Even though I have no use for faction, getting 25 (20?) per kill, 25 per win, and 25 for flawless seemed a lot more fun than playing for 10 and 2 faction.
Well, I don't want to write a novel (even though this post is already pretty long...), so I'll stop there. Suffice to say that I had fun this weekend with PvPx, but now I'll just go back to my PvE. Bye!
